Weave - Satin
Satin is the type of fabric to choose when you want a look to play elegantly in the light and appear instantly high-quality. Many designers use satin because its sheen is elegant and silhouettes can have a particularly flowing look. Ideal for festive pieces and calm, luxurious surfaces. (More...)
Satin describes a weave that creates a smooth, often shiny surface, ranging from subtle to highly lustrous depending on the fiber. Satin can be made from silk, viscose, polyester, or blends, resulting in considerable variation in feel, drape, and care. Many satin qualities drape softly and fluidly, but there are also firmer types like duchess satin that hold their shape. Satin is often used for dresses, blouses, skirts, linings, and evening wear.
Typical types of fabric:
• Silk satin
• Viscose satin
• Polyester satin
• Duchess satin
• Satin with elastane
Important characteristics:
Smooth, elegant surface with shine, often with a soft drape. Seams and construction are very visible, enhancing the high-quality look. Can be sensitive to scratches and pressure marks. Wrinkle behavior depends greatly on the fiber.
Care instructions:
Wash or clean gently according to fiber, use low temperature and gentle spinning. Air dry to preserve shine. Iron inside out using a cloth and low heat; silk often requires dry cleaning. Avoid friction to prevent surface damage.
