Weave - Ripstop
Ripstop is the quality you want when a fabric needs to be lightweight yet still extremely durable. Many designers use ripstop because its texture looks robust and it has proven itself in outdoor and sports for years. Ideal for functional looks that should remain long-lasting. (More...)
Ripstop, often known as ripstop fabric, is a material with a woven reinforcement grid intended to prevent tears from spreading. This makes the fabric very tear-resistant and suitable for everyday use despite its low weight. Ripstop is often based on polyamide or polyester, but can also be blended or coated, depending on its use. Typical applications include jackets, outdoor gear, bags, windbreakers, and anything that needs to be light and durable.
Typical fabric types:
• Polyamide ripstop
• Polyester ripstop
• Coated ripstop
• Lightweight ripstop
• Heavier ripstop
Key properties:
Highly tear-resistant with low weight, structured look thanks to the grid. Often quick-drying and easy-care. Depending on its finish, it may be wind- or water-repellent. Can feel crinkly, depending on density and finish.
Care instructions:
Gentle wash cycle, low temperature, often no fabric softener for functional finishes. Air dry, iron at a low temperature. Don't tumble dry or sharply fold coated fabrics. Follow care label instructions as finishes may vary.
