Weave - Rib fabrics
Ribbed fabrics are the quality choice for designs that should appear textured, versatile, and with a clear character. Many designers opt for ribbed fabrics because the characteristic ribbed texture immediately gives a high-quality look and is equally suitable for fashion, accessories, and home textiles. Ideal if you are looking for structured ribbed fabrics for shirts, trousers, jackets, or upholstery. (More...)
Ribbed fabrics is the collective term for fabrics with a clearly recognizable ribbed structure, which runs in the longitudinal or transverse direction depending on the weave or knit. Depending on the processing, ribbed fabrics can be soft and elastic, firm and smooth, or strongly textured, for example as ribbed jersey, grosgrain, corduroy, or cuff fabrics. Materials such as cotton, polyester, viscose, wool, or elastane are frequently used.
Typical fabric types:
- Ribbed jersey
- Grosgrain (woven fabric)
- Corduroy and fine corduroy
- Cuff fabrics
- Ribbed knit
Important properties:
Ribbed fabrics are shaping, durable, and visually high-quality due to their structure. Depending on the quality, they appear soft and stretchy, firm and smooth, or voluminous and strong, and are suitable for shirts, tops, trousers, jackets, coats, upholstery, and decorative applications. The ribbing gives the fabric character and good shape retention.
Care instructions:
Ribbed fabrics should be cared for appropriately depending on the material. Knit fabrics such as ribbed jersey usually tolerate a gentle wash cycle at 30 to 40 degrees, while woven fabrics with wool content are better washed by hand or professionally cleaned. Avoid using a dryer and high heat. Always iron at a low to medium temperature and preferably on the reverse side.
