Weave - Houndstooth
Houndstooth is the quality for designs that are meant to look classic, graphic, and timelessly elegant. Many designers choose houndstooth because the characteristic black-and-white pattern immediately appears high-quality and complements both traditional and modern cuts. Ideal if you're looking for a classic patterned fabric for coats, blazers, jackets, trousers, or skirts. (More...)
Houndstooth is a classic woven pattern in which a distinctive broken check design reminiscent of a rooster's foot is created by a special twill weave. The classic black-and-white version is well-known as is the smaller Pepita variant. Depending on processing, houndstooth can appear warm and bold, fine and elegant, or modern and graphic, for example as wool fabric, cotton houndstooth, or as a jacquard variant. Blends of wool, polyester, viscose, or cotton are often used.
Typical fabric types:
- Wool houndstooth fabric
- Coat fabric houndstooth
- Pepita (small pattern)
- Houndstooth jacquard
- Stretch quality houndstooth
Important properties:
Houndstooth is dimensionally stable, hard-wearing and, due to its classic pattern, automatically of high quality in appearance. Depending on the quality, it can look warm and elegant, sportily textured or modern and graphic and is suitable for coats, blazers, jackets, suits, skirts, trousers, and accessories. When working with it, attention should be paid to the direction of the pattern.
Care instructions:
Houndstooth should be cared for according to the material composition. Wool qualities generally only tolerate hand washing or professional cleaning, while cotton and blended qualities often allow for a gentle wash at 30 to 40 degrees. Iron preferably with steam, from the reverse side or with a pressing cloth. Avoid dryer heat and heavy pressing.
