Weave - Oxford
Oxford is the benchmark for designs that aim to appear classic, sporty-elegant, and suitable for everyday use. Many designers choose Oxford because the fabric, thanks to its characteristic weave, has a lightly textured surface, pleasant feel, and is very easy to work with. Ideal if you are looking for a classic shirting fabric with character for shirts, blouses, dresses, or casual wear. (More...)
Oxford is a woven cotton fabric with a fine Panama weave, in which several warp threads are woven with several weft threads, resulting in the typical grainy surface and light color variation. Depending on the processing, Oxford can appear fine and smooth, lightly textured, or stronger and slightly firmer, for example as classic Oxford, Royal Oxford, or Pinpoint Oxford. Materials such as cotton, polyester-cotton blends, or stretch fabrics with elastane are often used.
Typical fabric types:
- Classic Oxford in cotton
- Royal Oxford
- Pinpoint Oxford
- Oxford Stretch
- Oxford printed and plain
Important properties:
Oxford is robust, breathable, and slightly textured due to the weave, with a subtle two-tone look. The fabric holds its shape well, is comfortable to wear, and is suitable for shirts, blouses, shirt dresses, trousers, skirts, and casual wear. Oxford is easy to process, retains colors clearly, and combines well with other cotton qualities.
Care instructions:
Oxford is usually easy to care for and tolerates a wash cycle at 30 to 60 degrees, depending on the coloring and material composition. Tumble drying is possible but should be used with care for colored items and blended fabrics to avoid shrinkage. Iron at medium to high heat, slightly damp or with steam.
