Faux leather is perfect if you want a bold look that immediately appears modern and high-quality. Many designers use faux leather because it offers clean lines, interesting textures, and a distinctive character. Ideal for statement pieces that look robust yet remain stylish.
Faux leather is a material with a leather-like surface, usually on a textile backing, and can range from matte to shiny to textured. Depending on the quality, it can be softly draping or distinctly shape-giving, making it suitable for clean cuts. Faux leather is often used for jackets, skirts, trousers, vests, and accessories because of its strong visual impact and as a lower-maintenance alternative to leather. Proper processing is important, as heat and needle holes can be more visible.
Typical fabric types:
• Matte faux leather
• Shiny faux leather
• Embossed faux leather
• Stretch-quality faux leather
• Bonded faux leather depending on the structure
Important properties:
Striking surface, shape-giving and often more wind-repellent. Depending on quality, robust and easier to care for. May be less breathable than natural leather. Surface responds to heat and pressure, so iron carefully.
Care instructions:
Usually only wipe with a damp cloth and clean spots as needed. Do not wash too hot; many qualities are not suitable for machine washing. Iron only from the reverse side and on very low heat, ideally with a cloth. Avoid direct heat and strong friction to keep the surface nice.
