Weave - Batiste
Batiste is the fabric for designs that appear light yet look high-quality. Many designers choose batiste because it feels pleasant on the skin and gives every cut a fine, clean lightness. Ideal if you're looking for a delicate quality that doesn't seem arbitrary. (More...)
Batiste is a very fine, dense fabric that is usually lightweight and breathable, making it particularly comfortable to wear. The surface appears smooth and calm, which highlights colors, details, and precise craftsmanship beautifully. Depending on the quality, batiste can be slightly transparent, but remains visually clear and neat. Its low weight makes it especially suitable for airy pieces and delicate layers, without feeling heavy.
Typical types of fabric:
• Cotton batiste
• Viscose batiste
• Batiste blends
• Batiste with embroidery or texture
• Batiste in voile look, depending on quality
Key properties:
Batiste is very lightweight, soft, and breathable, and feels pleasantly cool on the skin. The smooth surface gives a calm, high-quality appearance and supports clean edges and details. Depending on the density, batiste can be more delicate and transparent or somewhat more compact and opaque. It drapes softly and naturally, appearing especially light and summery.
Care instructions:
Batiste is best washed gently; low temperatures and little spinning help protect the delicate structure. Air drying is ideal to keep the fabric smooth and avoid unnecessary wear. Iron at low to medium heat, preferably on the reverse; for very fine qualities, it is better to steam. For very delicate varieties, using a laundry bag is recommended to avoid friction.
