Weave - Plain weave variation
Canvas variations are the quality for designs that are meant to appear classic, versatile, and with a clear weave structure. Many designers opt for canvas variations because they combine the proven stability of the simplest weaving technique with added structure, texture, or appearance. Ideal if you are looking for fabrics with a classic weave but a special character for fashion, shirts, dresses, or home textiles. (More...)
Canvas variations are fabrics woven based on the classic canvas weave (1:1 weave), but are varied by additional effects such as different yarn thicknesses, multiple warp or weft threads, or special yarn structures. This creates fabrics like Panama, reps, taffeta, or cretonne, which differ in look and feel from pure canvas fabric. Materials such as cotton, linen, viscose, polyester, or blended fabrics are often used.
Typical fabric types:
- Panama weave
- Reps and ribbed fabrics
- Taffeta
- Cretonne
- Double-yarn canvas variations
Important properties:
Canvas variations are dimensionally stable, durable, and very robust due to the basic weave. Depending on the variant, they appear fine and smooth, textured and strong, or light and airy and are suitable for blouses, shirts, trousers, dresses, curtains, upholstery, and much more. The weaving method ensures an even surface and good workability.
Care instructions:
Canvas variations should be cared for appropriately based on the material, preferably on the gentle cycle at 30 to 40 degrees. Pure cotton or linen qualities often tolerate higher temperatures, more sensitive blends should be gently washed. Iron at the appropriate level depending on fiber content, slightly damp or with steam.
