Composition - Acetate

Acetate is the quality for designs that are meant to appear fluid, elegant, and refined. Many designers choose acetate because the fabric offers a subtle sheen, feels pleasantly light, and softly complements silhouettes. It's ideal if you are looking for a high-quality look reminiscent of silk that can also be used more practically for everyday wear.

Acetate is a semi-synthetic fiber based on cellulose and is frequently used for fabrics with a smooth surface, elegant drape, and a slight sheen. Depending on the processing, acetate can appear silky, softly flowing, or somewhat more stable in form, for example in linings, satin qualities, or more festive fabrics. Acetate is particularly valued for its elegant light effect, strong color brilliance, and well-groomed overall impression.

Typical fabric types:

• Acetate satin

• Acetate lining fabric

• Acetate taffeta

• Acetate blends

• Acetate with crêpe look

Important properties:

Acetate is light, soft, and often appears silky with a fine sheen. Many qualities drape beautifully and are well suited for elegant clothing, linings, or festive details. The fabric often creases less than some natural fibers and generally shows clear and brilliant colors. At the same time, acetate is more sensitive to heat and friction than more robust fabrics, so processing and care should be a bit gentler.

Care instructions:

Acetate should be treated gently and not exposed to high temperatures, so that its sheen, shape, and surface are maintained. Depending on the quality, hand washing or a very gentle wash cycle may be possible; for delicate types, dry cleaning is often the safer choice. When ironing, use only low temperatures, and ideally iron from the wrong side or with a pressing cloth. Avoid tumble drying and strong pressing.
