Polyurethane is a synthetic material that is frequently used in the textile industry as a coating, artificial leather, or elastic component in blended fabrics. Depending on how it is processed, polyurethane appears more like leather, smooth and shiny, matte, or soft and elastic, for example in artificial leather, coated fabrics, or stretch qualities. Polyurethane is especially valued for its robust surface, water-repellent properties, and the diverse design possibilities from subtly matte to high-gloss.

Important properties:
Polyurethane is robust, water-repellent and, depending on its quality, either smooth and dimensionally stable or soft and elastic. Many qualities have a closed surface with a leather-like or lacquer-like appearance and are well suited for modern, design-oriented clothing, accessories, or functional details. The fabric is usually easy to care for and displays colors clearly and vividly. At the same time, polyurethane is more sensitive to heat, sharp edges, and solvents, so processing and care should be somewhat gentler.
Care instructions:
Polyurethane should be cared for gently and not be exposed to high heat to preserve its surface, coating, and elasticity. Depending on the quality, hand washing or a very gentle wash cycle at a low temperature is possible; for artificial leather, wiping with a damp cloth is often sufficient. When ironing, only use very low heat and preferably iron from the inside or with a cloth, as otherwise the surface may be damaged. Dryer heat, strong creasing, and chemical cleaners should preferably be avoided.
