Italian designer fabrics by feel: soft, smooth, tactile and luxurious

The feel describes how a fabric feels and influences how a design appears. Roughly four types of feel can be distinguished: soft, smooth, tactile, and luxurious. Each creates a different effect. At Stoffgroßhandel Armbrüster, you can select Italian designer fabrics specifically by their feel.

Feel is more than a pleasant sensation. It determines how a style drapes, how calm or striking the surface looks, and how convincing the silhouette appears in the end. The best part: feel cannot be judged on screen, only through touch.

Why our Italian fabrics offer the right feel

Our fabrics come mainly from Italian weaving mills and from the surroundings of well-known design houses. Many are designer deadstock from limited stock, originally selected for sophisticated fashion. Because feel only convinces in direct experience, our sales team presents the collection to you in person, so you can touch and compare every fabric.

This is how collaboration works

Soft fabrics for comfort and flowing elegance

Soft fabrics are the right choice when a style should drape gently and be comfortable to wear. They bring movement into the design and often look effortlessly high quality.

  • Flowing silhouettes
  • Soft lines
  • Elegant drape
  • Pleasant wearing comfort

Smooth fabrics for clear lines and a modern effect

Smooth fabrics are suitable if you are looking for a clear surface, fine reflections, and a precise, modern effect. They make designs appear more calm and tidier.

  • Minimalist, clear shapes
  • Fine interplay with light
  • Elegant depth
  • Precise silhouettes

Tactile fabrics for contour and character

When a design needs structure and should showcase form, tactile fabrics are the right choice. They provide support, create contour, and make the shape more visible.

  • Clear contour
  • More structure
  • Emphasized texture
  • Strong presence

Luxurious fabrics for exclusive designs

Some fabrics reveal their quality immediately. Right from the first touch, you can tell something special is there. For collections with high standards, this feel is not just a detail but a real difference.

  • Visible value
  • Elegant depth
  • Special occasions
  • Collections with high standards

Frequently asked questions about fabric feel

What does fabric feel mean?

Feel describes how a fabric feels — its handle, surface and weight. It affects how a style drapes and how high-quality a design appears. Roughly, you can distinguish between soft, smooth, tactile and luxurious qualities.

Which fabrics feel especially soft?

Viscose, modal, fine cotton, soft jerseys and delicate silk are especially soft. They drape gently, feel pleasant to wear, and are ideal for flowing, body-hugging styles.

Which fabrics have a smooth surface?

Fabrics such as satin, crêpe, smooth silk and microfiber have a smooth surface. They play beautifully with light and look clear and modern, especially in minimalist designs.

Which fabrics are tactile and hold their shape?

Jacquard, twill, dense cotton, brocade and wool are tactile and hold their shape. They give a style structure and contour and are suitable for jackets, suits and structured pieces.

Which fabrics look particularly luxurious?

Bouclé, fine wool, duchess and fine silk are considered particularly luxurious. They provide depth, value, and an effect that often convinces at first touch.

How do I choose fabrics by feel?

First consider what effect your design should have: soft and flowing, smooth and clear, tactile with structure, or luxurious and valuable. The best way to judge the feel is to touch the original fabric.

Where can I see and touch high-quality fabrics?

At Stoffgroßhandel Armbrüster, our sales staff will present the fabrics to you in person on site. This way you can check handle, surface, and drape directly. You can order the qualities as yardage starting from 6 meters per fabric.

Most of our fabrics are made from valuable natural fibers. In the spring/summer collections, you’ll find beautifully delicate, fine-threaded cotton fabrics, elegant linen, silk, and the finest virgin wool fabrics. Our wholesale range for the autumn/winter collections offers fabrics made from similar materials, but generally warmer, heavier, and more focused on wool fabrics. Virgin wool fabrics are often blended here with cotton, silk, angora, mohair, or cashmere. Each collection also includes fabrics made from high-quality synthetic and microfibers, often designed as functional fabrics for outdoor clothing.
