Fabrics for Fashion Schools and Fashion Design Students

Fashion schools and fashion design students need fabrics that visibly carry their ideas. At Stoffgroßhandel Armbrüster, you’ll find Italian designer fabrics by the meter, from flowing qualities to tailoring wool. They come from the fashion industry and can already be used during your studies.

Inspiring fabric selection for fashion schools and fashion design students with satin, jacquard, and bouclé on a well-used worktable in an authentic fabric warehouse.

Material plays a deciding role earlier than many think. A fabric determines the drape, presence, and effect of a silhouette—often more than the cut alone. Those who already work with high-quality fabrics during their studies develop a keen sense for material and form early on.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fabrics for Fashion Schools

Which fabrics do fashion design students need?

That depends on the project. For draping and evening wear, satin, duchesse, and crêpe are suitable; for tailoring, wool and tweed; for prototyping, jersey and knitwear. For experiments with transparency, organza and chiffon are exciting.

Where can I get affordable designer fabrics as a student?

At Stoffgroßhandel Armbrüster. Because our fabrics are already produced stock, the price-performance ratio is often better than with comparable new goods. This makes real designer quality easily calculable for student projects as well.

Which fabrics are suitable for a final collection?

For final collections and showpieces, high-quality fabrics with a clear effect are suitable, such as jacquard, brocade, fine wool, or flowing satin. Since many fabrics are only available in limited quantities, they give a collection an individual signature.

Which fabrics are suitable for draping and tailoring?

For draping, flowing fabrics such as satin, crêpe, and silk are suitable. For tailoring, shape-retaining wool fabrics, tweed, and gabardine are ideal, as they allow for structure and clean edges.

Can I buy fabrics in small quantities for projects?

The minimum purchase is 6 meters per fabric. That’s enough for individual models, sample pieces, and smaller projects, without having to buy large quantities.

Can public institutions order on account?

Yes. Public institutions such as fashion schools and academies order from us directly on account, with no third-party in between. This makes administration and procurement much easier.

Do you come to the fashion school for fabric selection?

Yes. In an on-site appointment, our representative brings sample pieces from a curated selection directly to the fashion school, so you can see, touch, and compare the fabrics on-site.

Most of our fabrics are made from valuable natural fibers. In the spring/summer collections, you’ll find beautifully delicate, fine-threaded cotton fabrics, elegant linen, silk, and the finest virgin wool fabrics. Our wholesale range for the autumn/winter collections offers fabrics made from similar materials, but generally warmer, heavier, and more focused on wool fabrics. Virgin wool fabrics are often blended here with cotton, silk, angora, mohair, or cashmere. Each collection also includes fabrics made from high-quality synthetic and microfibers, often designed as functional fabrics for outdoor clothing.
